BRANDS > MISSONI
In 2003 Missoni celebrated its fiftieth anniversary of activity. The brand has revolutionised the knitwear sector over the years thanks to technological innovations in production methods and to a precise style that today allows to immediately unmistakably recognise Missoni garments. Based on the “put-together” concept, Missoni fashion is a free and apparently casual mixture and overlapping of colour, dots, lines, motifs and patterns. The distinctive features are patchwork, flamed effect, the black and white motifs, the Greek frets and zig-zags, the fur-jumper, boiled wool, tweeds.
The company was founded by the spouses Ottavio Missoni (nicknamed Tai) and Rosita Jelmini who, by combining their knowledge, made the first Missoni creations in the basement of their home in Gallarate. 1966 sees their debut in the fashion system with the first fashion show, while the following year saw the official invitation to Palazzo Pitti in Florence. In the ’70s the fashion house, by now famous worldwide, started to produce accessories, shoes and jewellery, which will be joined by the lines Missoni Home Collection, Missoni Sport and Missoni M for men and women. In 1997 there was, instead, the first fashion collection made entirely of fabric. In 1997 there was also the handover from Tai and Rosita to their children Angela, Vittorio and Luca. Angela in particular contributed right from the beginning to the definition of the Missoni style, while in 2000 Luca created his first men's collection.
